Tuesday 14 June 2016 to Friday 17 June 2016

The British Council, in partnership with Kids DiscoveryWorks, is proud to present new, innovative programmes that bring Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to pre-school and primary school children. Through engaging games, role-playing and hands-on experimentation, these exciting programmes ignite interest in learning through play.

Have an aspiring astronaut or astronomer at home? Launch them on a space exploration adventure! Through engaging hands-on activities, young explorers will learn about planet Earth, space and our solar system. On the way, they're exposed to scientific concepts, such as Newton's laws of motion and states of matter.

Children will have a great time:

  • Experimenting with gravity
  • Learning about phases of the moon
  • Designing their own constellations
  • Building and launching their own space rockets, and more!
Age Group  4 - 6 years
Class duration 90 minutes
Venue British Council Tampines Centre
Date 14 - 17 June 2016
Time 10:30 - 12:00
Course fees S$192

superhero science (primary)

Earth is under attack! As our best and brightest field agent, your child has been selected to assist Earth's superheroes on their mission to protect Earth! Agents will gain exposure to both the scientific method and the engineering design process, as well as learn fundamental principles and concepts used in the natural sciences, and civil, mechanical and chemical engineering.

Your child will have a great time:

  • Building a hovercraft
  • Exploring chemical reactions
  • Making a bow and arrow to experiment with projectile trajectory
  • Engineering enemy traps... with superhero slime and more!
Age Group  7 - 9 years
Class duration 120 minutes
Venue British Council Tampines Centre
Date 14 - 17 June 2016
Time 13:30 - 15:30
Course fees S$256

Class sizes are limited, so register today! For more information, call us at 6783 9209 or email

What is STEM

STEM is a new approach to education that emphasizes teaching Science, Technology, Engineering and Math in an interdisciplinary curriculum. Instead of teaching these disciplines as separate subjects, STEM integrates them into lessons that uniquely require students to actively engage a problem and apply their learning to find a creative solution.

The pre-school and primary years are critical times in a child's development. These are the years when your child will build key skill sets and tools required to understand and thrive in the world. With the pressure to raise test scores, however, many schools today have a very limited amount of time to devote to hands-on discovery and exploration, or to allow children to experience the pleasure of designing experiments to creatively solve real-world, relevant problems. The British Council and Kids DiscoveryWorks aim to fill this gap.

Fun: Ignites interest in learning through play

Hands-on: Encourages exploration and discovery through experimentation

Creative: Provides opportunities for inventive problem-solving

Educational: Advances better understanding of math, engineering and science through early childhood exposure

Collaborative: Builds confidence, collaboration and communication skills

Please note that a minimum enrollment of 8 students is required for each programme to run. The British Council and Kids DiscoveryWorks tries to inform parents as soon as possible should it appear that a programme will not reach its minimum enrollment. On these occasions, we will fully refund any fees paid and offer priority enrollment in other programs at our centres.
