Prepare for international school with SMART English Junior

British Council is the world authority in teaching the English language; now students can get a stronger foundation than ever by learning to speak SMART English…

Got a kiddo after a coveted spot in one of Singapore’s top international schools, mama? You’ll want to check out the new SMART English Junior programme from British Council, the world authority in teaching English language.

Launching in August 2016, SMART English Junior is an intensive Monday to Friday programme geared toward 11 to 14 year olds. Whilst building up a solid foundation level of English, students will also develop academic skills useful for entry exams and for preparing for life at an international school. All the while they’ll be boosting their confidence while learning to communicate effectively in English with teachers and classmates.

With student-centered classes and team-based project work, the course will focus on four key skill areas:

  • Listening and speaking
  • Reading and writing
  • Improving vocabulary and grammar and
  • Academic and critical thinking skills

At the end of each week students will also take quizzes to monitor their progress and ensure they’re on track. At the end of the 12-week course they’ll take a British Council-developed APTIS assessment test, which an increasing number of international schools are using as an entry test. Once a student has completed a level (there are three levels in all), they’ll even receive an APTIS Certificate and academic report that can help support their application. British Council’s experienced teachers will also provide handy exam tips throughout.

SMART English Junior is a 20-hours-per-week programme that runs Monday to Friday for students aged 11 to 14, but British Council also runs other language courses for young adult (15+) and adult learners, all of which come with free membership in myClub, a fun and social series of language workshops and events that includes everything from movie outings, to Shakespeare celebrations, to consults with a British Council “Grammar Doctor”. myClub is also a fab way to meet and make new friends while learning and practising English.

If you want to help your child feel prepared and confident for international school, it’s time to get SMART, mama!

SMART English Junior runs 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, at British Council’s Napier Road Centre, with additional myClub events at British Council’s Marsiling and Toa Payoh centres. Click here to sign up for a free consultation, mamas!
