As part of Shakespeare Lives in Film, a programme jointly organised by the British Council and the GREAT Britain campaign, in celebration of Shakespeare's work on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of his death, British Council will be presenting Prospero's Books at this year's European Union Film Festival.

Peter Greenaway's then state-of-the-art production of Prospero's Books offer a purely subjective take on the Tempest, as witnessed through the eyes of Prospero (John Gielgud, in one of his final roles). While textually challenging, the film is a visual pleasure, and is complimented beautifully by Michael Nyman's soaring score.
