The Economics of Happiness: Bosses, Productivity, and Job Satisfaction - An Introduction to the Scientific Evidence

This lecture will describe new evidence on the enormous influence of bosses, and the way they behave, upon employees' productivity and job satisfaction in the workplace.  It will cover evidence from many nations.  The lecture will be in non-technical language and will leave much time for open discussion from the floor.

The British Council is pleased to bring to you the upcoming British Council ‘Knowledge is GREAT’ Lecture featuring distinguished Warwick academic, Professor Andrew Oswald.

Andrew Oswald is Professor of Economics at the University of Warwick.  His work lies mainly at the border between economics and behavioural science, and includes the empirical study of human happiness.  He is an ISI Highly-Cited Researcher and is credited with helping to create the field now known as the economics of happiness, which is one of the fastest-growing within social science. Professor Oswald has worked on seven main areas: trade unions, labour contracts, the wage curve, entrepreneurship, home ownership and unemployment, the consequences of high oil prices, and the economics of happiness and mental health. He serves on the board of editors of Science.  He was previously at Oxford and the London School of Economics, with spells as Lecturer, Princeton University (1983-4); De Walt Ankeny Professor of Economics, Dartmouth College (1989-91); Jacob Wertheim Fellow, Harvard University (2005); Visiting Fellow, Cornell University (2008); and Research Director, IZA Bonn (2011-12).
