Occupational English Test (OET)

The Occupational English Test (OET) is an English language test designed to meet the specific needs of the healthcare sector.

It assesses the language and communication skills of healthcare professionals looking to register and practise in an English-speaking environment. It is recognised and trusted by over 20 healthcare regulators, boards, councils and government departments in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. 

OET tests healthcare practitioners from the following professions:

  • Dentistry
  • Dietetics
  • Medicine
  • Nursing
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Optometry
  • Pharmacy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Podiatry
  • Radiography
  • Speech Pathology
  • Veterinary Science

OET covers all four language skills with emphasis on communication in a healthcare environment. It consists of four sub-tests:

  • Listening (approximately 50 minutes)
  • Reading (60 minutes)
  • Writing (45 minutes)
  • Speaking (approximately 20 minutes)

Results will be published on the OET website approximately 15 business days after the test. The official Statements of Results will be posted as soon as possible after this to the current address in your online profile.
