Enhancing Cyber Security via AI and Big Data
featuring Dr. Leonardo Aniello, Assistant Professor, School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton.
About the lecture
The global pandemic has increased the speed at which the world turns digital. This has contributed to the expansion of the cyberspace, and to our increasing reliance on this cyberspace for our daily activities and critical tasks - such as providing financial services and managing personal data.
With this, the challenges of cyber security have grown, with cyber hacking now commonplace.
Today's cyber threats can lead to significant disruption of key services and loss of money and reputation, as shown by several serious cyber incidents recently. How can we deal with increasingly sophisticated and pervasive cyber-attack techniques?
In this lecture, Dr. Aniello discusses how Big Data and Machine Learning can be used to support Cyber Security. He explains how Big Data techniques would allow us to efficiently manage large volumes of data related to past successful attacks, and how Machine Learning approaches could be used to extract complex patterns from this data to help detect similar future attacks more accurately. Dr Aniello also explores job opportunities and the desirable skills required to pursue a career in this sector.
