The East Asia region includes 14 countries where we have dedicated arts teams: Australia, Burma, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The 14 territories are grouped into clusters, owing to shared cultural, linguistic, sociopolitical and economic interests.
Given the potential for cooperation across East Asia, we seek to develop partnerships for high-impact regional or multilateral programmes and to develop a regional dimension for in-country projects. We also look to shape joint programmes with other British Council regions and pursue opportunities for contract work in East Asia, even outside the 14 territories where we have a presence.
In 2013, our work across the 14 territories has engaged more than 5 million people through face-to-face exhibitions, showcasing, training and digital outreach.
